Raspberry Mint Smoothie

The raspberry season is in full swing, so it would really be a shame not to make some excellent raspberry mint smoothie from this excellent berries.
Regardless of whether you have your own raspberry patch at home and can enjoy homegrown raspberries or if you buy them, I would like to encourage you to consider storing your excess raspberries for the use in colder months. It’s so easy to store your harvested or bought raspberries. The easiest way is to simply freeze them and take them out of the freezer when needed.

Raspberry smoothie with some added mint for that extra freshness. 😉

During the raspberry season (which is now, in September and October), locally grown raspberries can be bought for as little as 5 €/kg, which is only a few cents more than if you buy frozen, imported raspberries at some of the discount retailers. With local purchase, however, you will not only support the efforts of domestic producers, but also reduce the carbon footprint, as imported fruits, including raspberries, travel hundreds or even thousands of kilometers before arriving on the shelves or freezer of your favorite store.

Not to mention that some raspberry growers will also let you pick raspberries by yourself. This way you will have full control over the freshness of raspberries, as you will collect them directly from shrubs. You can also bring your packaging to harvest, and thus contribute to reducing waste. And the last bonus worth mentioning – free raspberry tasting during harvesting.

Since my raspberry patch is only a year old and does not produce to its full capacity, I also bought some Slovenian raspberries, which I frozen and I will use them in smoothies and jams.

Smoothie below is made of raspberries, bananas, almonds and lemon catnip, which I described a couple of posts back. You can also use mint or lemon balm in the smoothie which will add a special, refreshing taste to it. If you do not like minty taste, you can also skip it.
